How to Wash a Wig
It is recommended to wash your wig after a few wears or when you notice it losing shine. Washing your wig will bring it “back to life.” Be sure to only use good-quality products specifically made for wigs. Follow these simple steps to properly wash your wig.
STEP 1:
Place your hand on the inside of the wig cap and use a wide-tooth comb or your fingers to gently comb through any tangles.
Tip: it is best to start from the bottom and work your way up toward the top.
STEP 2:
Place your wig under lukewarm running water until completely soaked through. Go easy on it — do not forcefully twist to wring it out.
Tip: if you have a long-haired wig, place it under a shower faucet.
STEP 3:
Lather your wig with a small amount of shampoo. Make sure all the hair is traveling down in the same direction. Then rinse in cool water until the water runs clear.
Tip: Avoid scrubbing or rubbing the hair, as it could damage the strands.
STEP 4:
Wrap your wig in a towel and gently pat dry until excess water is removed.
Tip: Avoid using a blow dryer and brushing the hair until the wig is completely dry.
STEP 5:
Spray a leave-in conditioner on your wig. Concentrate it toward the ends as this is where the hair can get the most tangled.
STEP 6:
After conditioning, place your wig on a wig stand to allow it to dry naturally.
